Humboldt State University NRPI Internship Opportunities
- Available Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall
- Must be able to work independently with little need for oversight. Mentoring provided.
- Must be responsible for completing agreed upon tasks.
- Failure to meet agreed upon tasks in timely manner will result in negative report.
- STREAMLINE Planning can only work with a few individuals or partners each semester.
- Related expenses (disks, copies) will be reimbursed.

- City of Blue Lake– 5 Separate Alternatives
- 1 Individual. Assistant Planner (in training). STREAMLINE Planning Consultants has provided advance and current planning services to the City of Blue Lake for the last 18 years. We are currently looking for an intern that is available Wednesday mornings between 9:30-noon to train to complete the daily planning tasks involved with a small city. This internship could lead to full or part time employment opportunity. This Internship involves processing of permits for Conditional Use Permits, Variances, Subdivisions, etc. and completing CEQA requirements, Must meet with Applicants, attend meetings with City Staff (City Manager, Public Works, Building Inspector), be able to meet time lines, attend evening meetings and may make presentations to Planning Commission and City Council
- 1-3 Individuals. GIS. The City will be working with a consultant in developing a base map and GIS project for the City. An internship is available for students to develop additional data that will be utilized for the GIS project. The student’s specific interest will be considered in defining the specific layers.
- 1-2 Individuals. Zoning Ordinance Update. This is a technical update that involves minor revisions, such as inserting graphics, developing Residential Construction Standards utilizing Livable Communities Principles, developing Industrial Performance Standards into general plan/zoning ordinance language and/or hypertexting the entire document.
- 1-2 Individuals. Grant Application and Administration. This opportunity will train someone to find, apply and, if received, administer a planning-related grant. May lead to part time employment if received.
- 1-2 Individuals. Historic Preservation. This opportunity would update the City’s inventory of historic structures, recompile information electronically and update the “Blue Book” with digital photos.
- City of Trinidad – 8 Separate Alternatives
- 1-3 Individuals. Watershed Assessments/Water Quality Monitoring. We are currently involved in water quality monitoring for the creeks, seeps and ocean waters surrounding Trinidad. This internship will build on this effort and include compiling related land use information into the GIS program on a watershed basis. May involve utilizing ArcHydro tools.
- 1 Individual. Assistant Planner (in training). STREAMLINE Planning Consultants has provided advance and current planning services to the City of Trinidad for the last 17 years. We are currently looking for an intern that is to train to complete the daily planning tasks involved with a small city. This internship could lead to full or part time employment opportunity. This Internship involves processing of permits for Coastal Development Permits, Conditional Use Permits, Variances, Subdivisions, etc. and completing CEQA requirements. Must be able to meet time lines, attend evening meetings and may make presentations to Planning Commission and City Council.
- 1-2 Individuals. Citizen’s Coastal Education and Training Program. This opportunity involves developing a program for the community of Trinidad to train citizens who would be knowledgeable about the near shore and ocean environments, collect water quality samples, be part of an "adopt-a-beach" program and first contact for marine mammal and offshore pollution reporting.
- 1-3 Individuals. GIS. The City currently has GIS for the City. An internship is available for students to develop additional data that will be utilized for the GIS project. The student’s specific interest will be considered in defining the specific layers.
- 1-2 Individuals. Zoning Ordinance Update. This is a technical update that involves minor revisions, such as inserting graphics, developing current CDP exemptions and proposing language consistent with current Coastal Act requirements.
- 1-2 Individuals. Grant Application and Administration. This opportunity will train someone to find, apply and, if received, administer a planning-related grant. May lead to part time employment if received.
- 1-2 Individuals. Historic Preservation. This opportunity consists of creating an inventory of historic structures, compile research information electronically and include inventory with digital photos. Historic aerial photo analysis and original research will be utilized.
- 1-2 Individuals. Housing Element Update. This opportunity consists of bringing 2000 Census information into an update of the 1996 Housing Element and update planning policies and implementation measures.
